TALL SHIPS TO MAKE ONE-DAY STOPS IN RAINIER AND ST HELENS Stopovers to be followed by a seven-day visit to Vancouver, Wash. Rainier, Ore. – The tall ships Lady Washington, the Official Ship of the State of Washington, and her companion ship, Hawaiian Chieftain, have scheduled one-day stops in the Columbia River communities of Rainier and St. Helens Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21. The ships will conduct educational programs for area school children and welcome the public for walk-on tours during both stops. Here are dates, times, and locations for public dockside tours: •Rainier (City Dock, East A and Third Street E.): Tuesday, May 20, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. •St. Helens (St. Helens Public Dock): Wednesday, May 21, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. A $3 donation per person is appreciated for dockside tours. While in Rainier and St. Helens, the crews of both ships will welcome students from the communities of Redmond, Vernonia, and Kelso, Wash. for educational programs. The students will learn how to raise a sail, sing a sea shanty, and hear stories of maritime life in the 18th century. Media is welcome to accompany school groups with permission from the schools. Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain depart St. Helens early on Thursday, May 22 and are scheduled to arrive with a cannon salute at Vancouver Landing in Vancouver, Wash. at approximately 4 p.m. The visit ends May 28.
