Letters to the Editor

I would like to extend a word of thanks to Sue and Jan for all their hard work and effort in putting together a great Saturday Market.

The first two weeks were so successful that It looks like the market is going to be a winner.

HELP WANTED

The Marina Market is looking for a teenager or young adult with an outgoing personality who would work for 2 or 3 hours every Saturday dressed as the Marina Market Mascot.

The Mascot is a giant red tomato. He or she would march in The Rainier Days parade, and on some Saturdays would be at the Marina Market passing out balloons, or just mingling with the crowd.

We are also looking for a tall slendor guy to be Uncle Sam for The Fourth of July weekend. He would pass out flags to the customers, and mingle with the shoppers.

Do you know of anyone? Not sure of salary yet, but it won't cover college...

New Indoor Market Opening April 26

The Clatskanie Chief

January 31, 2008

Building on the success of the "Rainier Saturday Market," a new "Rainier Marina Market," has been announced that will begin Saturday, April 26, located at 115 East A Street, next to the Bank of America building in Rainier.

The market may run until the Christmas holiday shopping season because the market's indoors. Additional days each week may also be added if vendors wish more exposure.

The new market will be held in a former 5,000 square foot hardware store. The building has been renovated with bright lights, electricity, water, garbage receptacles, and two new restrooms. Free parking is also included. The building is for the market only so market days and hours are flexible.

Vendors will no longer have to worry about rain, wind, snow or hauling tables and canopies, organizers say. Each vendor can set up shop in a 10x12 foot space complete with a long table, two chairs and a pegboard back wall for display. There is space for up to 50 vendors.

Market organizers are looking for the following vendors: popcorn or kettle com, hot nuts, deli sandwiches, bakery products, home made crafts and gifts, and local produce.

Vendors in the market will sell only home made gift items, or food items. Food vendors must have a food handler’s permit and meet all state and county requirements. No drugs, firearms, alcohol, smoking, weapons or questionable items are allowed.

Non-profit organizations are invited to share a space for no charge for literature and information only. No items would be sold in the nonprofit space. If wishing to sell raffle tickets or products, there is a charge of $15 per day.

"We hope to create an exciting market attracting locals, visitors, boating and river traffic, and prospective residents of Rainier," said Sue Drummond, market manager. “We plan on featuring fresh fish, bakery products, fresh produce, plants, garden related items, and quality arts and crafts. Since we can be open year round, we can expand our market to include special holiday events, Christmas shopping, and lots of specialty items which we could not have in an open air market."

Corporate sponsorships are available for a $200 donation to the market. Sponsors will receive a marine-type flag which will display their names. Flags will then hang outside the building year round.
